Improving Columbia's GIS Infrastructure
- Columbia GIS Website — This website is developing to serve as a portal to and comprehensive guide for GIS and Spatial Research resources and activities at Columbia University.
- GIS Metadata — We are creating metadata using a common university standard that is compatible with existing systems, planned future expansions, and existing federal (FGDC) standards. This metadata will be searchable and available shortly. Check back for updates.
- GIS Librarians Conference — The Electronic Data Service office in Lehman Library hosted a one-day meeting for GIS Librarians from major research universities on the east coast. This conference was a venue for discussion and information-sharing on critical questions involving metadata, spatial data acquisition, data licensing agreements, promotion of GIS services to users, and potential cooperative projects.
- Infrastructure Review — At the end of our two-year project, we will submit a report on GIS infrastructure at Columbia that reviews existing resources, assesses their adequacy, and makes recommendations for future investments. The results of this analysis will be available on this site. Please check back for updates.
